The right neighbors can make your house feel a little more like home. In honor of National Good Neighbor Day on September 28th, we’re sharing a few easy ways to celebrate the spirit of community by being a good neighbor.
Take a look!
Enjoy spontaneous get-togethers…
Your close proximity to your neighbors makes it effortlessly easy to have spontaneous fun! The next time you have a cookout, that wafting scent of marinated meats is sure to catch your next-door neighbor’s attention. Why not invite them over to the backyard for a quick bite?
… and holiday fun
Having great neighbors means that you can easily plan bigger events, too, which will prove to be pretty helpful as we head further toward the holiday season! Consider planning a neighborhood block party, community dinner or other function that gets the whole street together. It’s a great way to reconnect with friends and meet some new faces in the process!
Help tidy up your surroundings
Curb appeal and a neat, tidy home are just as important to being “neighborly” as anything else! You naturally want to live in a community where your peers care about their surroundings just as much as you do, so set a good precedent by keeping a neat lawn and maintaining a beautiful landscape. It’s as beneficial for you as it is for the whole block.
Another neighborly deed? Helping others do the same. If your neighbor has trouble raking leaves or getting old branches and debris off their property, lending a hand can make all the difference in the world.
Work together on improvement projects
Another easy way to help out is the classic tool swap. When you’re in a pinch, it’s always nice to be able to head next door and ask for some help, know-how, or a simple spare nail or lawn tool. You can do the same and help foster a sense of care and consideration the whole neighborhood will feel.
Just say “hi!”
Above all, being neighborly doesn’t have to be hard! One of the simplest ways to make a neighbor’s day is to just say “hi,” to the family that’s moving in or the one that’s been on the block for years. As you’ve probably already noticed, a little kindness goes a very long way in close-knit communities.
